Kids’ Playtime at the PARK & Miramonte Meet-Up

Annual Halloween Fun & Parade

Great turnout for Annual Halloween Parade & Park Ribbon Cutting

Free Little Library, Shade Structure, Play Equip

Many thanks to long-time Miramonte Neighborhood champion Ruth Beeker and local repair guy Kevin Keresey for spearheading the renovation of the two Little Free Libraries located at the Pocket Park. This is a great location to look for new books or to donate those you no longer need.
The libraries offer materials for adults and children.

Our neighborhood park is looking great! The shade structure and new play equipment are installed in the play area, and we have a beautiful hummingbird mural on the west wall and a great bird chart on the north wall. Maybe you have noticed that the Parks Department staff have been doing a lot of cleanup and maintenance as well.TPD has recently focused extra resources on the park to address illegal activity and ensure the park is safe for neighborhood residents. Their work has made a noticeable difference the last couple of weeks. Now it’s up to us to use the park, so that it doesn’t become inviting again to undesirable activity. The Miramonte Neighborhood Assn. is working on ideas for group meet-ups, such as kids’ play, coffee dates, music events, ice cream socials and so on. We hope to get started on that as weather permits this summer. In the meantime, let’s make a walk through the park part of our routine dog walks or morning/evening exercise walks. If you have kids, check out the play area. And if you observe possible illegal activity, please call 911, as TPD is keeping an eye on the park. And you might let the Ward 6 council office know also, by phone 520-791-4601 or [email protected]

Pocket Park Planting Party & Renovations

Miramonte Neighborhood Association is working with City Parks and Rec on renovation of the Pocket Park at Third and Richey. The City has cleared away invasive species and much overgrowth, and we now have a park that is ready for more native plants.  A landscape designer has prepared a plan for dozens of new native plants and trees.  The long term goal is maintenance of the original amenities,  perhaps adding some new ones;  thorough trimming to enhance visibility throughout the park; reviving the irrigation system to enable new arid-friendly plantings to survive.

Be sure to stop by the park to see our handiwork next time you’re in the area!
